H.E.R. Fitness Boutique: A New Chapter in Women’s Fitness
The legacy of empowering women in fitness spans over 35 years, beginning with our first location in 1985. Throughout these years, we’ve been dedicated to helping women achieve their fitness aspirations.
The motivation behind our original focus on women’s fitness was fueled by a widespread desire to lead a healthy lifestyle. Icons like Abbye “Pudgy” Stockton, Bobby Riggs, Jane Fonda, and others, through advancements in technology, brought health and fitness into the home. In the 1980s, the gym industry evolved with facilities that catered to emerging trends and encouraged participation in group exercise movements. Recognizing the need for spaces designed specifically for women, we embraced this direction wholeheartedly.
In 2024, embracing our rich history and responding to the evolving needs of our community, we rebranded to H.E.R. Fitness Boutique. This change reflects our continued commitment to providing a supportive and tailored fitness environment for women, right at the same location that has been a cornerstone of women’s fitness journey for decades.
Gail McBain

Gail McBain’s journey in the fitness industry began with her significant tenure at Shapes Total Fitness Corporation in Tampa. During her more than 30 years with Shapes, she garnered numerous accolades, including Employee of the Year awards, and was recognized for achieving the Highest Profitability, excelling in National Sales Contests, and delivering Outstanding Performance. She skillfully managed 13 Shapes locations as a successful Area Director.
In 2016, seizing an opportunity following a reorganization within Shapes, Gail embarked on a new venture as a franchise owner. This journey has now evolved into the rebranding of her gym to H.E.R. Fitness Boutique in 2024, where she continues to foster a deep connection with her members, welcoming them by name with her signature warm smile. Gail is always available for support, ready to listen, and willing to assist with any aspect of your fitness journey. She has meticulously assembled a team to uphold her vision of crafting a welcoming, safe, and empowering space where every woman can feel comfortable, valued, and motivated to achieve her best health.

Born and raised in Michigan in a large family of 8 kids, inspired Gail’s independence, resilience, and work ethic. At 9 years old, Gail had a small pony ride business and a paper route until she went to high school.
Gail fell in love with fitness while competing in track meets as a young 12-year-old girl. She continued running and playing sports throughout high school. When she saw an opportunity to ‘get paid to workout’ she jumped at the chance. Her fitness career was launched teaching aerobics classes in Michigan in the early 80s.
Gail trained & competed in The Tampa Bay Classic bodybuilding competition. Obtained her credentials ACE CPT, and AFAA group fitness, as well as Tony Robbins Leadership and Dale Carnegie Leadership certifications.
